Restraining Order on I. Washington?
So, the whole Washington/Dempsey brawl is still picking up media attention, as is only natural of such an occurrence. Now someone has stepped up to say that Isaiah Washington is a “real nasty guy.”
According to PR Inside…
Bryan Birge says his troubles with Washington started when he tried to make sure the actor’s wardrobe was always the same for successive scenes in the film, and he blew up when the costumer told him to take a magazine out of his pocket.
Speaking exclusively to America’s National Enquirer, Birge recalls, “He grabbed me by my throat, choking me. Then he picked me up and threw me over a couch.” When Washington refused to take Birge’s restraining order against him seriously, the costumier called the police: “They came down, handcuffed him and took him off in a squad car.” Washington has gone public about his spat with Dempsey, admitting, “We had a difference of opinions while working on set but we’ve resolved it.” Amid reports Washington stands to lose his role in the drama following the fracas, Birge says, “I hope he gets fired.” Washington’s publicist CYNTHIA SNYDER refuses to comment about her client’s alleged fight with the costumier.
How much of this to believe, I have no idea. But it seems a lot of people - even the Grey’s fans - are losing respect for Mr. Washington. He did assault McDreamy after all.
Do you guys believe this Birge guy? Or is he just trying to get attention?

I’m still a little fuzzy on what actually happened, cause each artical I read says things a tiny bit differently. All I know is that Isiah was way out of line and if he gets fired, I wouldn’t be suprised.

I have just read an article saying that T.R. knight (george) has come out as gay. I think that this is so great of him to show who he really is. I was wondering why you haven’t posted such important news. It is on people.com

It’ll be hard for them to get rid of Burke, he’s really a big part of it. But, it’d be even harder to replace him in the 3rd season. I really don’t agree with IW. He seems pretty immature to me. I’ll be thinking about this every time I tune in to GA. I just don’t know…
In reference to this costume guy, I don’t believe that. That’s way too rediculous. Yeah, he picked up and threw a guy, not to mention was hauled off to jail and had a restraining order put on him…and we didnt hear about it. Yeah…right.

I believe “the Birge guy” because he’s my brother-in-law and he started telling what happened a while ago - when Grey’s Anatomy first came out. I’m the only one in the family who’ll watch it because the rest of them are upset with IW over what happened years ago. There is a court record of the restraining order. I love the show, but he really did do that to Bryan.

You can absolutely believe this “Birge” guy. He’s my son and I am positive and absolutely sure that Isaiah Washington, lost it and went into a rage when Bryan asked him to remove a magazine from his pocket for the next scene. He did grab him by the collar and pick him up and throw him over a couch, then fell on top of Bryan and drew his fist back to break his face when someone restrained Isaiah. Who knows what that rage is all about? Something must have happened with someone else or about something else before Washington was being prepared by wardrobe for the next scene. It had nothing to do with Bryan Birge, asking him to take the magazine out of his pocket. He was already provoked by some unknown. He lost it when Birge directed him about continuity. Everyone should know that Washington does not control himself and someone, someday will be hurt seriously. He’s a dangerous man when angered by even trivial directions. Louise

Isn’t it ironic that in an interview Isaiah Washington at first told Shonda Rhimes that he was not interested in playing Preston Burke because that character of the Black man with difficulty controlling his anger had already been done. Shonda promised him a story arc that would not be the typical portrayal of Black men as thugs and hoodlums in Hollywood. In fact, the character Preston Burke is a brilliant surgeon, honest, caring, committed to Cristina and to being a man of integrity. If the actor who portrays him has issues with anger management, his performance is worthy of an Emmy. I am not saying that you are or are not Bryan Birge’s mother or that the story he has sold to the National Inquirer is accurate or not. It is possible to come on a website and claim to be anyone. My question to your son would be why the National Inquirer, the least reputable of all publications? Is your son still employed by ABC or the production team that brings us Grey’s Anatomy? If so, isn’t it a little bit like biting the hand that feeds you to make these statements that could hurt the show this long after the fact? And, if not, isn’t it a bit like sour grapes to be spilling the beans, so to speak, in a way that can badly hurt the show? It seems strange to me that if this incident occurred several years ago that it is just now coming out and in this way. If this happened back in the beginning, why would they not have replaced a violent actor who needed to be drug away in handcuffs before the show became popular and viewers became committed to Burke? It wasn’t until around episode four or five, maybe later, that Burke and Cristina’s relationship began and fans started to become enamored with their story line. Up to midway through season one they could probably have replaced the actor without too much difficulty in the minds of the viewers. Now, in the third year with Burke and Cristina such a popular couple, it would be devastating to the show. The timing honestly seems a little suspect. It is also a bit like finding someone guilty without representation. We do not know anything about Isaiah’s side to this story, even if your son’s story is true from his perspective and yours. If this really is a criminal issue, should you be writing about it on a website or should he be selling his story to a gossip magazine? It is interesting that who ever originally leaked the story of Patrick and Isaiah’s blow up out to the press from an intensely private and secretive set accused Isaiah of grabbing Patrick around the neck and shoving him away just as your son is claiming he did back in the beginning (three years ago?). I wonder if there is a connection or what the motivation is for coming forward now. He has been married for a long time, by Holloywood standards, over ten years, to the same woman and they always look very happy with each other in pictures. He is an actor, but she isn’t. His three children also look happy and healthy. Do you suppose he only loses his temper at work? I’m sorry, but it just doesn’t all fit together for me. If it is true, I hope your son has found other employment and that Isaiah has been asked to seek treatment. If it is not true, how sad for anyone to try to ruin someone else’s career for personal gain.

I know where IW’s rage comes from…I’ve worked with Birge before and wanted to bash him in the face on many occasions…but didn’t….there’s the difference
